History and Short Description

The children here are classified as slow learners and also have problems with motor skills.

The children live in apartments in family groups of 6-10. Brothers and sisters are kept together and these family groups are of mixed ages. Each family has four vospitateli who work in 12 hour shifts of two people. From the first to fourth grade, children go to school inside the orphanage. In fifth and sixth grade they go to school No. 167 which is located not far from the orphanage. Pre-school children are taught by teacher's aides in the orphanage itself. The children of Orphanage No. 26 are social orphans. These are, for the most part, children of alcoholic parents who have been deprived of their parental rights. Several of the children have brothers and sisters who have been placed in other, specialized Summer timeorphanages and internats for reasons that are (in Russia) classified as having either a mental or physical disability.

Children come to this orphanage after they are removed from their families by social workers or from a priyut or dom rebyonka where babies are cared for.

Orphanage no.26 also has its own website (in Russian).
